How to Cure the Munchies {When You're Not a Health Guru}

One of the best breakfasts I have ever had (Hilo, Hawaii)

There are articles upon articles with advice on how to balance your carbohydrates, proteins, and other nutrients, in order to have a fulfilling diet. If you’re looking to lose or maintain weight, one of the number one things you see is that you should never EVER eat after dinner. While that’s a great thought, and I can manage to not do it (sometimes), there are nights where I am still absolutely starving! That leaves us with the question of what can we do to beat these munchies when we’re not health experts?

Re-Evaluate Your Daily Meals:

What are you eating throughout your day? Are you skipping meals, eating fastfood all the time, or find yourself constantly eating whatever you find in the breakroom? If you said yes to any of those, or even a "maybe," then my simple advice for you are these three things: 1) Start of with small portions for each meal, eat until your full, and stop!, 2) Drink as much water as you can; it helps to carry a small water bottle with you, 3) Protein is a great way to get filled up, with less calories.

Foods that I Use to Beat the Munchies:

Hungry? Try a spoonful of peanut butter or a couple pieces of cheese.

Craving Chocolate? Grab a couple pieces of Dove Dark Chocolate.

Salty Snack? Glutino's gluten free pretzels are amazing/or any pretzels.

Not sure? DRINK WATER.

I cannot stress drinking water, enough. While you may have to use the bathroom about five times an hour when you first start out, you will stay more awake and find yourself more satisfied at mealtime.

This post may seem too simple, and that's because it is! Instead of ignoring the signals that your body is giving you, do your best to listen and find the healthiest alternatives that work for your body and budget! The next time you feel overwhelmed by the latest diet trends, remember to keep it simple and get back to the basics; it will make a world of difference.

I would love to hear about what works for you, and any tips that you can send me, until then have a wonderful week and ''happy munching!"
